From the Republic of Tuva in Southern Siberia, HUUN-HUUR-TU is an ensemble that has brought throat singing to audiences far beyond its place of origin. Rooted in a tradition where music, nature, and way of life are closely connected, they work with sound in a way that creates a distinct sonic landscape of overtones, undertones, and rhythms produced directly by the voice.
Since their formation in the early 1990s, the quartet has established itself as a clear voice on the international scene. They have toured extensively for decades, often performing a high number of concerts each year, reaching both established venues and new audiences. A wide range of collaborations – from DJ projects to contemporary music and film – has expanded their expression while remaining grounded in tradition.
Through releases such as Spirits of Tuva, Children of the Otter, and later vinyl editions of earlier recordings, they have shown a willingness to present their work in new formats. Their music has also been featured in film and television, and in recent years they have reached a broader audience through digital platforms.
On stage, HUUN-HUUR-TU perform with focus and precision. They move between different styles of throat singing, accompanied by traditional instruments such as the igyl, toschpulur, and percussion. The result is an expression that is both structured and open, where subtle shifts in sound and rhythm play a central role. This is a concert that offers a close encounter with a living tradition, presented by musicians who have worked with it throughout their lives.
